Green-Economy simulation analysis in Ukraine

On 10 and 11 April, UNEP and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine held a national training workshop on green-economy assessment in Kiev. The workshop introduced methodologies and tools, including different types of simulation models, for assessing a green economy, as well as examples of other countries’ assessments.

The workshop was opened by representatives of the Ministry, the EU delegation to Ukraine and UNEP. Andrea Bassi, an expert on green-economy modelling analysis, conducted the technical sessions.

The participants, who came from universities and key government agencies, recommended the following action: testing the methodology and demonstrating the usefulness of the modelling work; conducting a quantitative analysis of three priority/pilot areas; establishing a national working group/expert team, guided by the Ministry.

With assistance from UNEP, the newly created team of experts will start its work by defining the scope and areas of analysis, followed by data collection, model creation and validation of the results.
