Powering a cleaner future at EXPO 2017

UN Environment will point the way to a clean energy future at the world’s biggest exhibition in Astana, Kazakhstan this summer.

EXPO 2017 is being held under the theme of ‘future energy’ and UN Environment is organising a roundtable for decision-makers, a multimedia story exhibition on the clean energy transition and a media dialogue, as well as taking part in numerous events.

On 24 August, Solar Impulse pioneer Bertrand Piccard will join UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim will highlight options and solutions for clean energy in a roundtable with key decision-makers, financial institutions and firms from Central Asia.

UN Environment will around that day offer visitors to its stand at the UN pavilion the chance to literally join the clean energy movement by hosting an energy dance floor in collaboration with Energy Floors. By stepping on the floor, people can light it up and even power a camera that takes their photo.

The floor can be part of a smart grid linked to other renewable sources such as solar panel tiles. This grid can then feed any energy-consuming product, meaning it can form part of a green energy solution for shopping malls for example.

More than two million people visited the 2015 EXPO edition in Milan, Italy.
