Environment ministers from the seven most industrialised countries on Earth met in Bologna on 11-12 June to discuss priorities for the coming years.
Topics discussed included environmental tax reform, environmentally harmful subsidies, the role of multilateral development banks, green and sustainable finance, marine litter and resource efficiency.
The ministers launched a 5-year 'Bologna roadmap’ on resource efficiency, which includes a pledge to fully participate in the 10-year framework programmes on sustainable consumption and production, where UN Environment carries out several actions to promote best practices among governments and the private sector.
A joint communiqué issued following the meeting also lauded UN Environment’s work towards a sustainable financial system.
The meeting was also attended by the Commissioners of the European Union for Environment and Climate and the environment ministers of four other emerging economies particularly committed to environmental policies - Chile, Maldives, Ethiopia and Rwanda.
