Crowdfunding for sustainable development | |
On 22 February, the Post Conflict and Disaster Management Branch in Geneva co-hosted a presentation on alternative financing mechanisms in developing countries.
The presentation, given by two Master’s level students from the Graduate Institute Geneva, discussed the potential of using crowdfunding for sustainable development - particularly in Haiti.
The study was based on a research trip to the country supported by the Haiti Sustainable Energy project funded by the Norwegian government. The students had the chance to visit project sites in Haiti’s rural south and interview various partners.
During the presentation, the students also explored how international organisations leverage crowdfunding for development projects, and the potential to use crowdfunding for clean energy projects.
Lastly, ethical and legal implications of crowdfunding were discussed, followed by a question and answer session. This research was compiled into a final academic paper for an applied research seminar project at the Graduate Institute Geneva.
