green eco  UNEP ON THE GROUND
Green Economy training for Mongolian media

The Green Economy concept and best practices to promote the green economic development agenda were discussed by key media agencies, university journalism lecturers and students during a training course organised by UNEP’s Partnership for Action on Green Economy in Mongolia.

The Sustainable Development Goals, Green Development Policy and key economic sectors - in particular agriculture, the energy-water nexus, as well as green public procurement were among subjects covered by the training.

In one case, participants learned to examine the costs and savings over the lifecycle of a building, including maintenance, so as to minimise impacts on the environment and human health. The ‘Introduction to a Green Economy’ handbook - developed, edited and published under PAGE with the support of United Nations Institute for Training and Research - was used as a key learning tool.

The course was significant for promoting implementation of Mongolia's Green Development Policy, the Director of Green Development Policy and Strategic Planning Ms Bulgan Tumendemberel underlined when opening the training.

The event was organised together with Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism and took place in the country’s capital Ulaanbataar on October 15. The workshop was the second in a series supported by PAGE scheduled from October to November 2015.
