UNEP delivers training on integrated water resource management in Afghanistan | |
Together with Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), UNEP has organized a joint training event for government staff on “Natural Disasters and Conflict,” focusing on integrated water resource and flood management. The training provided staff from key environmental institutions skills and experience on disaster planning, climate change, as well as disaster risk reduction and assessment – these are much needed, particularly in the context of Afghanistan’s natural environment and climate. The event took place on 11-12 April 2015 with support from DFID, Estonia and the EU The two-day workshop formed the initial step in the delivery of a multi-module course on ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction as part of Afghanistan’s Eco-DRR project, which is part of a larger EU-funded initiative also involving pilot projects in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Haiti.
